| Fibromyalgia (FM) is a disorder which is characterized by the presence of chronic widespread pain. There is no particular cause known for the development of fibromyalgia. It might develop due to some kind of trauma like an accident, disease or any major surgery. According to some evidence, Lyme Disease may cause certain fibromyalgia symptoms. Studies suggest that more than one cause may be responsible for the development of the disease. Some of these are:
• Genetics: In the studies it was found that genetics may be one of the causes responsible for the development of fibromyalgia.
• Stress: Studies have shown that stress is one of the major factors responsible for the development of fibromyalgia. The studies suggested that many cases of chronic pain are the results of certain changes in the body due to mind's subconscious strategy of distracting dangerous and painful emotions.
• Sleep disturbance: Studies have shown that fibromyalgia patients lack proper sleep. Lack of sleep further worsens the situation. According to studies, trauma and illnesses cause sleep disturbances which initiate chronic pain which may lead to the development of fibromyalgia. The studies also suggest that stage four sleep is very crucial for the functioning of the body's nervous system as certain neurochemical processes take place in the body during this stage. Particularly, pain releases neuropeptide substance P in the spinal chord, causing more pain and making the nerves more sensitive.
• Deposition: Studies have found that deposition of intracellular calcium and phosphate eventually leads to the development of fibromyalgia. The accumulation of phosphate is generally gradual but is increased by illness or trauma.
• Dopamine abnormality: Fibromyalgia is often considered to be a stress related disease as its symptoms worsen with stressful events. For this reason it was believed that due to fibromyalgia there may be low levels of central dopamine as a result of certain genetic factors like exposure to environmental stress, physical trauma, viral infections etc. Low levels of dopamine cause more sensitivity towards pain.
• Serotonin: Serotonin is known to play a crucial role in controlling and regulating sleep, decrease pain and improve concentration. Uncontrolled serotonin metabolism is believed to be an underlying factor behind the symptoms of fibromyalgia.
It is believed that only one factor is not responsible for the development of fibromyalgia. Studies have found that it is a comorbid disorder and is developed due to the combination of more that one cause and therefore there is no particular cause solely responsible for the development of fibromyalgia.
Glutathione is a tripeptide produced by our body cells themselves. It is one of the most essential proteins present in the body. Glutathione performs three essential functions in the body, as the body's
• Immune Booster
• Master Antioxidant
• Natural Detoxifier
In recent studies conducted on Fibromyalgia, it was found that glutathione can help patients suffering from fibomyalgia to a great extent. It was found that, with improved levels of glutathione in the body, many of the fibromyalgia symptoms were suppressed. Therefore glutathione helps the fibromyalgia patients to get relief from the unbearable pain and fatigue caused due to fibromyalgia.
